KLR Livestock Marketing School

Rod Knight (pictured right) from KLR Marketing explains the concepts of the KLR Livestock Marketing School to the managers from Great Southern Cattle Managers.

The knowledge from the KLR Livestock Marketing School has helped an increasing number of producers across Australia manage the market cycle and to maximise profits within their livestock enterprise.

On Tuesday and Wednesday this week twelve Tasmanian farmers from across the state also learned how to profit from their enterprise regardless of market direction.

Rod Knight and Grahame Rees from the KLR Marketing lead the two day marketing school and taught us how to apply the concepts and knowledge in the real world with some really handy calculators that helped us determine our cost of gain and when to sell/buy.

The school taught some of the states most progressive farmers to value and balance the grass, money and livestock inventories.

Do I sell? Do I buy? Do I hold? For many it’s most difficult and agonising decision to make and I really think that if more producers understood the fundamentals of this school then more farmers would be in control of their businesses, rather than the other way around!

It occurred to many of the participants that the red meat industry in Australia is very proficient at getting more kilograms of meat per hectare and as a consequence spends enormous amount of unnecessary resources achieving it.

This might sound pretty simple – but there was a realisation that the best time to sell shouldn’t be based on seasons or when livestock reached a certain weight! The best time to sell is when you can replace what you have with underpriced stock.
