Low Stress Stockhandling School at “Malahide”

Participant at the Low Stress Stockhandling School at Malahide Tasmania

Who would have thought that you can move livestock with out the use of barking dogs and noisy people waving long lengths of poly pipe!

Until last week this was me in the stockyards. I participated in a Low Stress Stockhandling School (LSS) which Rural Connections co-hosted along with the management team from “Malahide” at Fingal on the 23rd & 24th of April.

The LSS School taught us how to handle livestock in a positive manner which promotes a low stress interaction between us and our livestock.

The inaugural Tasmanian Honour Roll of Women was launched in May 2005 by the Tasmanian Government.

The Honour Roll now recognises 143 inspiring Tasmanian women from all walks of life and backgrounds who have made an impact at local, state, national or international level.

E-Learning: Rural Business Management

Rural Connections is pulling together a project which encourages rural people to participate in e-learning to obtain nationally recognised training/certification i.e. Certificate IV or Diploma in Rural Business Management etc.

By September I am hoping to have run a pilot unit. At the completion of a successful trial (with the knowledge gained and processes developed) I will be developing the full program.

My vision for this project is to unite and encourage primary producers to take the opportunity of recognising current work skills and to give them the opportunity to work “on” their business rather than “in” it, while at the same time complementing the process with a formal qualification.
